Down and Out!

What a difference a couple of hours can make. This morning Holden woke up talking about how excited he was that it was Friday! Which in our house means movie night, pizza, popcorn, and cookies. It is also our day to get a Happy Meal after school. In other words, Friday is like a national holiday every week. I dropped the boys off at preschool this morning and all was well.

A little before 11:30, I am walking into school for pick-up, when I see one of Holden's teachers in the front office calling me over. I walk over and see Holden seated in a chair, who is about three shade of green and sick! Yes, the stomach virus has invaded our house!Once we get home and cleaned up, Holden parks himself on the couch for a Disney movie marathon. I kind of thought he was feeling better this afternoon and we were in the clear. Then Holden asked me to hold him to refill his Sprite, when all of a sudden he says, "I don't feel so good". Which is code for, I am going to get sick! We take off running to the bathroom, however, between the bowl and the toilet we seemed to have missed both. Instead, Holden and I were covered in yuck from head to toe. Holden was hysterical! Not only because he was covered in yuck but he did not feel well. And wouldn't you know it, Rylan runs into the bathroom and says he has to go potty right in the middle of hysteria. I try to get him to go to the other bathroom, but instead, he proceeds to pee-pee in the floor. Now, he is crying because he went potty in his choo-choo undies. I am thinking, "You have got to be kidding me!" Finally, I get everyone changed and settled down. When I finally get the chance to start cleaning and disinfecting the downstairs, I remind myself, that these are the days that I will miss one day, just not today!

A day of projects

Yesterday seemed like a day of constant projects! We started out making beaded necklaces. Rylan tries to steal Holden's "pride and joy" necklace he made at school on a daily basis. I decided it would probably be a good idea for him to make his own. Which he has been wearing ever since! After making several necklaces, Holden wanted to make something with pipe cleaners. We came up with beaded hearts for Valentine's Day. I thought we were done for the day, then all of a sudden Holden remembered making stain glass hearts last year and wanted to make them too. It is remarkable how he can just remember things out of the blue! So, yes, that is what we did next...shaved the crayons, placed the shavings on a heart shaped wax paper, use a towel and a hot iron to melt the crayons, and there you have it, stain glassed hearts. We made several hearts, and I do mean several, and hung them around the house.
Then, as Rylan was waking up from his nap, we decided to make yarn hearts. I mean really, why not we were on a roll! First you place the yarn in the cornstarch glue, then use a cookie cutter for a mold, bake and then you have a yarn heart. Our day of projects was a little unexpected but the boys had a great time creating and making a mess for me to clean up!

Look at me...

Look at me, I'm a BIG boy now!!

One positive outcome from the recent snow storms and being home bound, is that Rylan has been going pee-pee on the potty alot more. Yes, we could finally concentrate on getting potty trained! I know, what fun! Holden was really easy to potty train but I had a feeling Rylan would not be the same. Then today, all of a sudden, he went poopie on the potty! There was a huge celebration! Holden and I went crazy! Not with just M&M's, oh no! We made a special trip to the store to pick out a toy and undies! He was so proud. The entire way to the store he kept saying, "I get choo-choo and choo-choo undies. Yeah!" That is just what we got, Percy the train and Thomas undies. Here is our little underwear model himself....

Just look at that cute tushy!

Adorable, I know! Rylan could not decide which undies he liked best so instead he insisted on wearing all THREE all day long. Can you tell he is just a little proud of himself?

News today, only one small accident, but it was partially my fault. I could not get all tree undies off quick enough. But other than that he is doing great. We will keep our fingers crossed for the remainder of the week.

On a side note, on the way home from Holden's basketball practice this evening, both boys were listening to the DVD player with headphones. When all of a sudden Rylan throws his headphones across the car and yells, "I have to go pee-pee". Yikes what do I do! I have not put the little potty in the car yet. So I pull off in a parking lot, by the way it has started snowing again, to let him go potty. Just like every other boy that gets to go pee-pee outside you have to tell them something to aim at or else there will be trouble. Well that something just happened to be the front of the car. So now what is he saying over and over again...."I pee-peed on the car and got M&M's" Yes, I am teaching them well over here! HA!! Wish us luck!

Snow Sledding

You would think by now the boys would be completely tired of the snow, but the mention of snow sledding and they are out the door! Fortunately, our neighborhood golf course provides some of the best hills for sledding just foot steps away from the house. Our little dare devils love to see just how fast and far they can go! And you know Kevin and I have just as much fun as boys sledding. However, Kevin thought it was a great idea to show out for us....my guess is his plan did not go as expected! But it did provide us will some laughs. After a couple of hours of playing in balmy 9 degree weather, it was time to call it a day and head back to the house for movie night. Now this is what I call a perfect snowy day!Fun, family, and snow. And to think we are expecting another round of snow on Tuesday! Welcome to winter in Ohio!

Unexpected Snow Days!!

We knew we were expecting snow on Thursday around noon, however, it decided to come a little earlier and schools were called off. After it was all said and done we received about 6 inches of snow. I was actually looking forward to having a day to do nothing except play. After hearing the snow plows several times in our neighborhood Thursday night, I was shocked when they decided to call off school again on Friday. What were we going to do! As much as we love playing in the snow, you can get a little stir crazy being cooped up in the house. Yes, even my cute little munchkins need something to do!That was when decided to start some of our Valentine crafts. Do you remember last year the Valentine treat mailbox? And what a huge hit it was? Well, I decided it would be even more fun if each of the boys had their own mailbox to open each day. I just happened to find the cutest "mini" white mailboxes and stickers in the dollar bin at Target. And after a little creativity from the boys, they turned out adorable. Lastly, I had Holden write each of their names on the side of their mailbox. Now, I just need to pull out all of my decorations to make the house feel showered in love!

Second Game, Second Basket

Saturday was our second game of the basketball season. And just like the week before, the scene was beyond cute. Really, they are just hilarious to watch. For most of them the basketball is almost as big as they are and then to watch their excitement even when the other team makes a basket. Precious I tell you! Surprisingly, Holden "The Batman" made another basket! Trust me, I think he grew about two inches in that moment! I am sure this coming Saturday's game, the excitement and enthusiasm will continue! Go Mountaineers!!!

Slime and a little bit of magic

Each day while Rylan naps, Holden and I try to do something together, just the two of us. Anything from reading, drawing, playing "guys", crafts, and little science experiments. Lately, slime/quicksand has been a daily request. He could play for hours in this stuff. We decided to include Rylan and see if he would like playing with this messy mixture. I am sure you can guess, it was a hit with him as well. Can you believe that a simple mixture of cornstarch and water would be a favorite form of entertainment for these little guys!

Since the boys love experiments, I knew they would love this magic trick I came across the other day. First you fill four cups with water and set aside. Place one drop of food coloring on four spoons and then cover with baking soda. Say, "Abracadabra turn this water to blue." Stir the spoon in the water and voila! The water turns to BLUE! WOW, Momma knows magic!!! This trick was a HUGE hit! So much that we went through 2 boxes of baking soda doing this trick. Now in order to do this trick over and over, I had to be a little sneaky and hide the food coloring behind the cookbook stand to discreetly place a drop on the spoons. Why? Because I did want him to figure out my secret! A little difficult but it was so worth the look of shock on Holden's face each time I did the trick.

It is true the simplest things are often the most fun!!
