End of a great season

Our first Upward basketball season has come to an end. I think we had just as much fun watching Holden play as he did actually playing the sport. It was a defiantly a successful season! Here are just a couple of the highlights from the season, Holden learned some of the fundamentals of basketball, he provided us with plenty of laughs especially when his name was called "Holden 'The Batman' Port" at the beginning of each game and he ran onto the court, and my personal favorite, how he celebrated after making a basket! It was a basketball season to remember! I am actually looking forward to our next season of Upward Basketball!

Prayer Request

Please pray for this sweet girl. Her name is Lucy age 5, and is the daughter of my friend Kate from my hometown, Covington, Tennessee. This week, Lucy was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. On Friday she underwent surgery to remove three cancerous tumors from her brain, and one on her spine. She also has a "sugar coating" of tumors all along the length of her spine that will require aggressive chemo and radiation. She is starting a battle no child should ever have to face. I believe in the power of prayer and through God I believe he will heal this sweet girl. Please surround their family with prayers!

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and prayers! Kate is going to try to keep us all updated on Lucy through her blog. Here is their link:

Look who's back!

Another pesky bird!! I am constantly hearing "Tap, tap, tap, thump, tap, tap, tap, thump" as this little bird flies into the window. I am sure we will have plenty more of these pesky visitors since it is not even Spring yet!

Sushi anyone?

As I've mentioned before, preschool ends here at 11:30. Which means the three of us have lunch together everyday. To be honest, I have started running out of lunch ideas. You can only have sandwiches so many times before you become extremely tired of them! Then I remember how much the boys enjoyed our mock sushi snack last year and decided that would be our lunch today. First, I let them both spread peanut butter on their tortilla. Then I set out a variety of toppings such as blueberries, raisins, chocolate chips, honey, bananas, and so forth for them to make their sushi roll as they pleased. After we rolled and sliced their rolls, it was time to enjoy! And boy did they enjoy their creations! We defiantly need to do this more often. Sushi anyone?!

Pioneer Woman!!!

While I was pregnant with Rylan I found Pioneer Woman's blog and have been hooked ever since! I've given her cookbook to several friends and family. Not only do I love her recipes because it reminds me of the same food I grew up eating but I love her photography, confessions, home and gardening, and homeschooling. Yes, I love everything about Pioneer Woman. So when I heard she was coming to Cincinnati to promote her new book, "From Black Heels to Tractor Wheels" I knew I had to meet her! I called the bookstore and found out they were giving line letters for the book signing and to meet her. As you can probably guess, I went down and collected a couple of lines letters shortly after I called!

I asked a couple of my friends if they wanted to join me and as expected they were just as excited as I was to meet her! Ree Drummond, better known as the Pioneer Woman, came out before the book signing for a question and answer session.

Then I finally had the pleasure of meeting her myself!!! She was just as sweet and adorable as I imagined she would be!
I had the best time meeting Pioneer Woman with friends. Yes, what could be better!!!

A busy couple of days....

It has been one of those weeks where everything just seems to happen all in the same week. Including a visit from Grammy and Dad-daddy (Kevin's parents). The boys were so excited for their arrival on Wednesday. Here is a recap of their visit. As soon as they arrived, Holden had to show them how he can play basketball over at our neighborhood park.Rylan wanted in on the action too and thankfully Dad-Daddy was willing to help him out. Even though Rylan thought his head needed a little cleaning and spit on him and then proceeded to rubbed it in with his hand several times! I guess he was just trying to make a wish! Yes, Rylan is our little jokester. I think the grandparents brought the warmer weather with them too. It was so nice out that there was plenty of play time on the play set. Friday, Kevin took off work and the boys missed school so that we could go to the Newport Aquarium. It is located on the river in Newport, Kentucky. It was our first time and we were not disappointed except that the penguins exhibit was being renovated. They are usually a big hit with Holden and Rylan but instead they enjoyed seeing the jelly fish and the ever so famous Nemo fish, feeding the parrots, seeing the sharks and even getting the chance to touch the baby sharks. It was fun for us all.

Early Saturday morning we had a basketball game that Grammy & Dad-daddy thoroughly enjoyed! I do not think I have heard them laugh so much in my life! I am so glad they were able to see Holden in action. It really is a site to see!

After the basketball game we took advantage of weather and played outside. Holden decided it was finally time to take off his training wheels and give riding with two wheels a try. We took them off last fall but then ended up putting them back on after several nights of Holden waking up from a nightmare crying that he was falling off his bike. However, Saturday he was determined to ride without training wheels. He did great! I think after another day of practicing he will completely "get it".
Saturday night Kevin and I escaped for a date of our own. This time we went to dinner in an area called Mt. Adams. I loved the area! There were several old buildings and houses that have been restored and now are shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. It was very eclectic and so much fun! And nestled in the middle of all this was a beautiful church called Immaculata, "The Church of the Steps" where you can see the night skyline. WOW, was it was beautiful!
Even though this week was a busy one, we had a great time with Grammy and Dad-Daddy. I know the boys are already planning for their next visit!

Happy Valentine's Day

It's that time of year shower the ones you love. And there was plenty of showering this morning with love, surprises, and sweets. As you all know, I love holidays and especially surprising the boys on holidays. This morning the boys were greeted with a Valentine breakfast. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day by waking up to muffins, heart shaped pancakes, treats, and love notes. I was not omitted from the showering of love. I received beautiful homemade cards, roses, coffee (my favorite flavor, cinnamon hazelnut), and my new favorite piece of jewelry! Don't you just love it! I have several pieces of jewelry with the boys birthstones that I love but to do wear everyday. And this necklace is perfect for everyday. I am in love with it!

I know Kevin says that this is a "fake" holiday manufactured by Hallmark. However, I view this holiday as an opportunity to express our love to the ones we hold dear. Happy Valentine's Day!!
