A new favorite Children's Discovery Garden!

After reading an article about the Children's Discovery Garden in Dayton I just knew this was a place the kids would love to visit. Yesterday, we decided to do just that. When we first walked up to the park there was this huge woven sculpture. As soon as the boys saw it, they were off and running through the woven maze. As the boys were running laps, I was admiring the gardens! Beautiful! Then it was time discover what all the Children's Discovery Garden had to offer. Where to start? There were several sand tables and ground sand areas, watering pumps, musical gardens, ponds, rainbow garden, sensory garden, prairies, caves, wilderness garden, and oh yes, the water and water falls! The highlight of the day...cooling off in the water!

We also walked through the "secret" gardens, as the boys called them, again beautiful! Really words can not describe how beautiful all the different gardens were.

After spending the entire day at the gardens, and I do mean the entire day, this gem has become a new favorite for us. Not only are gardens beautiful to look at, plenty of places to explore, educational, and lots of things keep these little ones interested, but this Children's Garden is FREE! As I have said before, one of our blessings of living in Cincinnati have been the parks and this one just adds to our list of favorites!

Library Goals and Zoofari

At the beginning of the summer we started our reading logs and after several weeks we have almost completed our goal of 60 hours of reading. For every 10 hours of reading you turn your log in for a reward. Yesterday they boys were able to turn in the second to last reading log. So far, we have completed 50+hours! This log reward was a coupon for an ice cream cone at The Cone, a coupon for Chick-fila kids meal, a coupon for an Ihop kids meal , and a book of their choice! Who knew reading was so much fun! I think Holden may have swayed Rylan into picking a Star Wars book just like him but then again I could be wrong. After choosing several books to help complete our final hours of our reading logs, we made our way over for the Zoofari Program. Again this was another program the library offered that I signed up for this summer. The name says it all! The Zoofari program featured 6 animals from 6 continents. With each animal they described what they ate, what they did, and where they came from. Here is a little of what we encountered...
South America-The Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird eating Tarantula, North America Toucanet (Toucan), Europe-European Legless Lizard, Africa-Dark Mongoose, Asia-Burmese Python, and Australia- Wallaby. After the program was over they said that if you wanted to touch the python then to stand in line...who were the first to get in line? Holden and Rylan! This really must be a boy thing to touch a snake, I personally did not partake in the activity!

On Tuesday's at our library they have craft timealso, so you know we had to stay and make a craft. This week they made penguins to go with the animal theme.

Since the summer heat is in full swing, it was nice to spend a morning inside picking out books, learning about animals, and making a craft all at our local library.

Copy Cat!

My friend Amy in Atlanta does the neatest activities with her girls. Right now she is doing this yearly tradition called 31 Flavors where for 31 days she surprises her girls with an activity, outing or just a fun craft. Yes, I love reading all about it! Last week they had a day of science experiments. Once I saw their experiments, I just knew I had to copy/borrow their ideas. I even talked Kevin into helping. As Amy did, we asked the boys what do you think will happen if you put a Mentos into a Diet Coke bottle? Holden, "It will sink to the bottom." Rylan, "Taste good." Typical answers, Holden very literal and Rylan just happy go lucky thinking about food!

Finally, time to see what will happen when you place a Mentos in a bottle of Diet Coke? Watch and see...There you have it, it explodes! Talk about the surprise on their faces! Of course after they both wanted to taste the new Minty Diet Coke. I admit, I am a copy cat, but this was just too neat not to try out with the boys. Thanks Amy for the fun experiment idea!
