We have made slime, quicksand, volcanoes, crystals but never flubber.  So when I came across this recipe for flubber on Pintrest, I knew the boys would love it.  The recipe is rather easy, first you mix 2 cups of Elmer's glue

with 1 1/2 cups of warm water,

food coloring and stir until smooth.

In another bowl mix 3 tablespoons of Borax with 1 cup of warm water.

Then you pour the glue mixture into the borax mixture and voila you have what we call flubber

Holden loved the way it felt.

He loved pulling and stretching.

Then it was Rylan's turn to mix his own flubber.

Look at his smile!

Who knew that this little mixture of goo would bring an afternoon of excitement.

We will defiantly be making flubber again, really soon!

Lazy Weekend

Saturday morning we woke up to a sheet of ice.  Everything was covered!  Holden basketball was cancelled and we decided to take it easy and stay around the house.  While the boys played Star Wars I stocked the freezer with cinnamon rolls.
7 pans to be exact.  Something about cold weather makes me want to cook, I am not sure why but it does.

After baking, I finished up a couple of items I had been working on.  First were the boys new mailboxes for our countdown to Valentine's Day.  Nothing fancy, I just painted a heart with their initial in the middle.

I even made mailbox for Kevin and I too. We will start our countdown on February 1st.

I follow a website called  http://www.icanteachmychild.com/ for ideas to do with the boys.  A couple of months ago they posted an idea and a file for ABC Scripture Books.  I loved the idea and had been wanting to make them for the boys and finally finished them this weekend.  I laminated the pages so that they will hopefully last longer.

I love how each scripture has a picture to go with each verse.

It really make it easy for the kids to understand and remember.

As you can see it was a rather lazy weekend due to the icy conditions outside, however, we stayed warm at home with movies, playing games, cooking, and finishing up some small projects.

"But Momma, I'm the Coach"

Saturday was Holden second Upward basketball game.  It was an early game, 8:00 am! Crazy I know. Which meant we needed to have everyone dressed and out the door by 7:20 to make sure we were on time.  Friday night, I laid all our clothes out, got snacks together, and organized everything so that the morning would go smoothly.  Well, all was going great until Rylan saw his outfit.  He protested and said he could not wear that!  When I asked him what did he wanted to wear, he ran and got Holden's Upward basketball uniform from last year. AHH!  I tried to talk him out of this outfit because it was snowing and freezing outside.  However, he was not having it and he looked at me and with his loud little voice said, "But Momma, I'm the coach!"

I guess I should have prefaced the story by telling that each week at practice, Holden coach, Coach Bill, let's Rylan come over and help with the devotional and passing the balls.  And he calls him, "Coach Rylan".  So on Saturday morning, this is what Coach Rylan was wearing...
I am quite sure this will be his attire for the entire season. He loved how everyone was like, "Oh, you look so cute, Are you a basketball player, Are you playing too."  Coach Rylan was loving all the attention we will see if this continues! Stay tuned!

Not the day that I hoped for.

Well, Thursday night's snow was not as much as we expected or that I had hoped for at least.  Especially, not enough for school to be called off.  Instead it was our usual routine, breakfast, school, then lunch.  However, today after we picked up Holden from school we rushed home and changed into our snow gear.  Yes, we braved the frigid temperatures for a little outside fun.
While Holden was in school Rylan and I bought a snow tube.  I know, as if we did not have enough snow toys. And would you know it, the boys were just dying to try it out.

If only we would have had a little more snow this new tube would have been so much fun.  The boys obsession with eating the snow continued.
I just do not get it!

We were able to sled a little in the back yard before deciding it was too cold to stay out any longer.

Once the Holden and Rylan striped out of their snow gear, it was time to warm up hot chocolate and muffins.
Not the snow day we had hoped for but fun none the less.

Just another winter day

This our third winter in Ohio and by far this has been the mildest.  Even with the mild temperatures, for here that is, it has been gloomy and rainy most days.  The boys make the most of these winter days by fighting crime as Batman and Batman Jr.

Oh these two actors!

Lots and lots of games!
Winter crafts...we painted with snow.  Well, actually it was shaving cream and glue but once it dried it looked like snow.

Our winter day ended on a sweet note.  I had Christmas M&M's leftover from the holidays and was wondering what in the world am I going to do with all of these.  Then I came across a recipe, M&M Blondie's.  Perfect.  My little bakers had a great time pouring the flour, sugar and yes the M&M's too.
Today was just another winter day but as I sit here, snow is falling outside.  Since it has been such a mild winter thus far, I am actually looking forward to tomorrows snow and I secretly hoping for a snow day.  I know, I will probably regret these thoughts of snow in a couple of weeks when it will not stop but for now the kids are excited about the snow and to be honest I am too.
