A few of my favorite things

Now that Spring has officially begun, I have a few favorites these days.

1.  Lots of outside playing time!  There is just nothing better than watching the boys ride their bikes.

2.   Tulips!!  Yes, our tulips survived the freeze and they are in full bloom!

3.  New wreaths!  I love crafting when I have time and this was my latest Spring wreath I made.   I love the bright and different colored rosettes.

4. Picnic lunches!  No vacuuming, no sweeping, need I say more!

5.  Bubbles!  How can you begin spring without bubbles.

6.  Mr. Softie ice cream at Prasco Park!  Baseball and ice cream season has begun!

7.  The new Pioneer Woman Cooks: Food From My Frontier cookbook!!!  While I was buying my sister a copy of this cookbook for her birthday, I could not resist purchasing one for myself too!  The recipes are fantastic, pictures are beautiful and her humor is refreshing.

8.  "Baseball with Dad"  Kevin was not traveling and came home early from work to play baseball with his little players.

I have a lot of favorites this spring.  I am just trying to remind myself to take the time to appreciate them all.

Weekend

Kevin's parents came to visit this past weekend.  Usually I plan tons of activities for us to do, however, this weekend we really just needed to get things done.  Like, fixing the fence that our neighbor has now broken 2 times, yard work, (hard to believe we already had to cut the grass),  planting, buying a new bed for Rylan (more about this later in the week when it arrives) and the list goes on and on.  Somehow with two very active boys it always seems to take twice as long to finish a task.  So having the in laws in town this weekend, we tried to accomplish as much as possible.  But don't worry, we did make time for some fun.  Sunday the weather was perfect for a day at the zoo.  If you remember correctly the Cincinnati Zoo is also a Botanical Gardens too which means the grounds are always so beautiful.  The zoo is especially beautiful in the spring when everything is in full bloom.  Just take a look at the sea of tulips...

There were tulips everywhere! All I can say is GORGEOUS!!! WOW they were breath taking.  The trees where is full bloom too.

What a sight!

And since the weather was perfect, the animals were all out.

Now you know we can not visit the zoo without a ride on the train, so here is the wild bunch!  HA!

After a great day at the zoo, there was still plenty of time for playing with their grandparents.

Another busy weekend and great visit from family.  Thanks again Grammy and Dad-Daddy for all the help...maybe you can catch up on your sleep once you are back home.

Quote of the Day

While Rylan and I were driving to preschool this morning he says to me, "Momma, the girls love Rylan."  I started to laugh and then asked, "What did you say?"  He said it again, "The girls love Rylan"  I said, "Oh really.  How do you know this?"  Rylan says, "Cause they always say Rylan, Rylan, Rylan."

A little full of himself isn't he!

I did it again!

Last year, I ran the Mini Heart Marathon with my friend Sarah and had so much fun.  In January, we made plans to run it again together.  So once again, I started training for this race.  I had great plans to train really hard for 3 months and beat my time from last year.  However, shortly after these grand plans, I got the flu, then bronchitis, and then several sinus infections and then those grand goals slowly dwindled.  My goal then changed to just finish the race around the same time.  Which was really good considering the race coarse.  As the race day approached,  my friend Sarah realized that her training schedule for that day consisted of a 5 hour bike ride and a swim. (She qualified for the Ironman Hawaii, amazing I know!)  There was just no way she could swing the race too.  With that said, I was on my own, not that I was running at her pace or anything but it was fun to go down there with her and celebrate afterwards.

So Sunday morning I set out to do the Mini Heart Marathon on my own.  The sun was shining as we began at 7:45, very different than last year.  Don't you remember it was freezing and raining, so much better this year!  Shortly after the race began I decided this has got to be one of the hilliest coarses I have ever run.  It was non stop hills, it did not matter that the weather was great it was still hard!  But as I crossed the finish line, I felt that runners high and realized why I decided to do this race again.  Not only is it a fun race with bands playing every 3 to 4 miles, wonderful crowds cheering you on the entire coarse, thousands of participates with the same goal to finish but it is the feeling of setting a goal and actually accomplishing it!

As I made my way through the finish line I heard someone yelling "Momma, Momma", I looked over through the crowd and saw Kevin, Holden and Rylan.  It was a surprise to me because Kevin had decided Saturday night not to come.  Since the race was early and we knew it was going to be a huge crowd since there were over 19,000 participates in all the different races.  So when I saw them, I was totally surprised.

We made our way over to Fountain Square to get the official results.

Last year my time was 1:19:48 and this year... 1:17:42!!!!  I actually place 23rd in my age group and received a Champion Nike Dry Fit shirt and a Running Spot gift card!  Yes, I have to admit I was proud of myself.

The big difference between this year and last year is that I feel great, which makes me wonder if I should have pushed myself a little harder but then again, I always have next year.

I just love surprises!

Now that it is starting to feel like spring, the boys have been outside non stop!  They are playing everything from baseball to sidewalk chalk.  And everyday our Little Tikes basketball goal makes it outside to shoot a couple of hoops from.  Now this poor goal has seen better days.

We have taped the bottom so the sand does not spill out, however, it still does.

It was actually passed down from my niece and nephews to my kids so it is at least 18 years old!  It has had ALOT of playing time and surely got it's money worth.

For some time now we have contemplated buying the boys a "big" basketball goal.  So when we saw a great deal on a basketball goal, we decide to go ahead and bit the bullet.  Kevin bought it on Thursday night and hid it in his car.  Friday night we had the bright idea to assemble the goal and surprise the boys with it in the morning.  Little did we know it would take a little longer than we had planned!  At 1:30, in the morning, we finally finished it!

After all of the St. Patrick's Day morning surprises, we told the boys we had a surprise for them outside.

This was their reaction when they saw the new goal...

Don't you just love it!

I am sure this new goal will get lots of playing time, especially now that the weather is warming up.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

It has been one busy weekend! I am finally getting around to posting about our St. Patrick's Day celebration.  I think is one of my favorite holidays for several reasons one, it means we are close to spring and warmer weather, two, I love the boys waking up looking to see where the Leprechaun left his pots of gold, and three, all the fun and colorful treats!  There are so many fun ideas!  Like this good rainbow treat the boys shared with their friends.  I forgot to take pictures of the actual ones with the tag but you get the idea.

As usual I made rainbow cupcakes for the boys

and this year with the extra batter I made rainbow cake pops.

I just love the colors inside!

It never fails, the boys were up bright and early yesterday searching for the pot of gold.  They followed the shamrocks to the rainbow and found the pot of gold below.

After they found the pot of gold they ran upstairs to see what green surprises I had for them.

Lots of fun with hats and mustaches this year!

I wanted to make rainbow waffles for breakfast but I knew all the boys really wanted were Lucky Charms!

This is the only time of year I buy this and they just love all that sugary goodness!

Despite our early morning wake up time we had a great St. Patrick's Day with "our" two Lucky Charms!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!
