Golf Camp

A couple of months back Holden asked to take golf lessons out of the blue.  I think one of his friends must have been talking about it or something but either way he showed an interest.  So when Holden's school sent home a brochure for Golf Camp I knew we just had to sign him up.  This camp was being offered by a teacher at Holden's school so I knew this would be the best experience for him.  Each day Mr. Bennett had a scripture that somehow tied into what they were going to do for that day.

Day 1,  they practiced putting and it was quickly realized that I forgot to inform his instructor that Holden was left handed and heaven forbid Holden tell him!  Whoops!

Either way by day two he was getting much better!  I am thinking it may have had something to do with the wrong hand but what do I know.

Day 3,  much of the same, putting, using the tee, and practicing the correct form, however, on this day Holden decided he really enjoyed golf.

Day 4 and the final day, they practiced using the driver and WOW, Holden had some great shots!

Mr. Bennett was even amazed at one of his shots.  He said it went over 80 yards!  Not bad for his first time!  Now I am not saying Holden is the next Golf superstar but if he can learn to play a sport that is a life long sport while he is young and actually enjoy it, I say sign us up again.  Even Rylan was wanting to play but he is still just a little too young for lessons.  However, I do see a Father & Sons outing in the very near future.

It's time for the Rodeo

I think Garth Brooks has the best description of a bull rider with his song "Rodeo""It's boots and chaps, it's cowboy hats, it's spurs and latigo.  It's the ropes and the reins, the joy and the pain and they call the thing rodeo."  I think this whole thrill and excitement is what also keeps the boys wanting to go back and watch some more.  The rodeo has quickly become a summer ritual.  When we asked the kids to make a list of summer activities they wanted to do, the Fox Hollow Rodeo was at the top of the list.  All week long the excitement was building for the weekend activities, first we had Star Wars Night Friday and then we had the Rodeo planned for Saturday.  I think the boys thought they hit the jackpot this weekend.

As usual, they both had to go in full cowboy attire.  Yes, they were a sight!

As soon as we got there we registered for the Muttin' Bustin', which lets be honest was probably the number one reason why they wanted to go ride the sheep.  Crazy I know, but they are boys.  What else do you expect!

There were several kids registered for the Muttin' Bustin' and Holden and Rylan were the last two to ride.

Holden went first and hopped right on this little guy.

But then his sheep did not want to move so they popped him on his side and he shot off like a bullet!  I think the look on Holden's face says it all.

I could not decide if this was fear, shock, or sheer determination either way Holden held on tight until the very end.  Next up, little Rylan.  They gave him the little sheep but little did we know he was the fastest of the two!  Rylan got on and was ready to ride.  His sheep did not have a problem with running in fact he was a little too fast.

Rylan held on tight but in the end, he fell off!

I was a little scared and started running to get him, since he did go face first after all but then before I could get to him he jumped right up and started handing out high fives to the cowboys!  Let me tell you, Rylan is one tough little guy.  As Kevin and the boys were exited the arena, I told Kevin we were not going to win parent of the year award any time soon for this event!  We both just laughed.  We were so thankful Rylan was just a little dusty and not hurt.  It did not seem to bother him at all he was loving all the attention people were giving him about what a great rider he was.  As you can imagine, he was hamming it up!

Finally it was time for what we had all been waiting for, the Bull Riding!  Once again they prayed for the safety of these cowboys and trust me they needed it!

These bulls were huge and wild! Not a good combination!

All I have to say is WOW!  It is always exciting to watch these bull riders.

The champion for the night was a 16 year old!!!  I can not imagine ever letting the boys do this!!  I think we will just stick to Muttin' Bustin' for the boys thrills.

One more summer activity marked off our list with an exciting evening at the rodeo.  It was an adventure for us all.

Star Wars & Baseball?!

You may be wondering what Star Wars and Baseball have in common right?  Well, it was Star Wars Theme Night at one of our favorite baseball venues, Prasco Park.  Throughout the summer they have special theme nights where they will do things revolving around that theme.  And last nights theme was Star Wars!  I knew this was an event the boys would not want to miss.  On the website it said, "Costumes encouraged". Holden and Rylan took this as an ok to dress all out in their costumes "like the real characters".  So here are Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader entering the ball park.

These Halloween costumes sure have gotten their moneys worth!  When we entered, the boys were able to pick out one Star Wars toy courtesy of Prasco Park.

They also had several Star Wars gift baskets as giveaways throughout the night. As I have said before, they have the best family events and this one did not disappoint once again.

We were able to find seats in the shade before opening pitch.  Talk about lucky!

As I said earlier the theme of Star Wars was through out the stadium, even the concession stands with Yoda Juice, Darth Dogs, & Light saber Pretzels.  The boys both thought this was just great.

After watching the game for a bit the boys found some friends who had they same idea that they did, Light saber Battling!

Kevin and I were both laughing at how serious all the kids were with their battling. Must be a boy thing.

Once the game was over, they showed the original Star Wars movie.  However, since it was already 9:00 and considering the boys go to bed around 7:30 we were already pushing our luck, we opted not to stay for the movie.  It did not seem to bother the boys since they were asleep before we even made it home.  Again, I think it is safe to say they both had a great time at Prasco Park's Star Wars Theme Night!
