Just Playing

Everyday it is a new exciting discovery for Leyton.  For instance,  today when I put him on his play mat he all of a sudden noticed the hanging animals.

He was examining the animals,

swatting at them hanging down,

and was delighted when he saw himself in the mirror.

Oh to be a baby with no worries at all.  This really is the good life!

This little guy is discovering more and more in this big world each day.

Last Friday on the way home from school, Holden asked me if he could get a haircut.  Since he is a little attached to his hair and never, and I do mean never, wants to get his hair cut I was caught a little off guard.  And when he told me he wanted to cut his hair like Rylan's, I was even more surprised.  Once he was seated in the styliest chair and his long locks started falling to the ground,  I began to feel a little apprehensive of how Holden would react to his hair being short.  But much to my surprise, he loved it.  He loved it so much that he told that he looked like a teenager now.  And just like Rylan he has started spiking his hair!

Oh these boys!  So now not only is Rylan wearing hair product but Holden is too.

As you can see, Holden is extremely generous with the hair gel!
I must admit that you can finally see the boys eyes with their new haircuts but they also look so much older!

Perhaps Holden is right,  they look like "little teenagers".

New Discovery

Leyton has discovered his hands this week.  I know this is not a huge milestone but for this little guy he seems to be thrill with his new discovery.

It is so funny to watch him look at his hands.

He will look with such concentration and when he opens them, he starts smiling with amazement.  As if this is something new each and every time.

It's little moments and occasions like this when I remember just how fast they grow and just how much more I appreciate this time.

Happy Valentine's Day!

It has been a busy Valentine's day around here.  Here is a little recap of our day of "LOVE".  We started the morning off with a morning surprise breakfast.

I kept it simple, heart shaped pancakes with heart shaped strawberries.

Then we were off to school with our Valentines for friends.  Rylan choose bubbles for his friends.

I showed Holden several cute ideas and came up with a couple too but Holden was dead set on a football Valentine.  Not only a football one but a San Franscico 49er Valentine,   News flash, it does not exisit!  Instead, I had to come up with something and this is how it turned out.

I attached a blow pop as a treat.  Not quite as cute as all of the Pinterest ideas but Holden loved them and I guess that is all that matters.

While I was feeding Leyton, I let Rylan decorate cookies for Kevin.  He took his decorating very serious.

Look at all the sprinkles!

Our littlest Valentine looked too cute today in his tie shirt that I just could not resist a photo session!

Hope your day was filled with as much love as ours was with these three valentines!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday marks the beginning of Lent.  It also means a time for celebration.

We celebrated with King Cake.

I make mine more like a cinnamon roll rather than a cake so we had it for breakfast   The boys always love it.  I am sure is has nothing to do with all the sugar!  Holden and Rylan both had fun with all the beads and pretending they were Ninjago with the Mardi Gras mask too.

Even little Leyton got in on the fun with the Mardi Gras beads.

After seeing so many cute Mardi Gras cookies, I attempted to make them myself.  Well, they did not exactly turn out as I had pictured but the boys did not seem to mind.

And as they say at Mardi Gras, "Laissez les bons temps rouler"  Translated, "Let the good times roll!"

It's all fun and games

I think the saying goes, "It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt."  So here's a story about that "someone".  Last Sunday, the boys were out playing in the snow, sledding and snowboarding.  Kevin and I were inside watching them when all of a sudden Kevin said to me, and I quote, "Let me go show these boys how it is done."  Famous last words right.  Kevin decided to joined the boys outside and told me to watch him.  Leyton and I sat at the window and watched Kevin snowboard.  He went down the hill the first time and fell.  Then he got back on again and went down that same small hill and fall again but this time he did not get up.  Instead he came crawling inside.  At first I thought he was joking but then he started complaining about his leg and telling me he thought he broke it. I was thinking, "You have got to be kidding me!" Surely he just twisted or bruised it perhaps.  But all night long, he complained about his leg.  Since his ankle did swell, I tried to reassure Kevin that he must have just twisted it.  But you know how men are, they get a paper cut and you would think they were going to bleed to death. So I am sure you can image how much Kevin was complaining about his leg!

After listening to him complain and not to mention hearing him hobble and jump around the house, I convinced him to make an appointment to see a doctor.  Well, would you know it, he fractured his bone! I know you are thinking, the same thing I was thinking...REALLY!  I wish I was joking but I am not.

Now it feels like I have 4 boys to take care of!  I am sure you can guess who is the neediest out of the four.  I can give you a hint, it is not the infant!

When Kevin went to work on Tuesday with his boot and crutches  I asked what he told his co-workers.  He looked at me straight faced and said, "I told them I hurt it snowboarding."  I just laughed because what he failed to tell them is that he was on his kids sled "snowboarding", in the backyard, and on a hill that is less that a 10% incline! I suppose he will learn one day but until then I am having to hear, "Can you get me a crystal light, can you help me with my shoes, can you make my plate...."  and the list goes on and on.  But as I was at church today, I was reminded that you need to have joy in your marriage to make it last. Well, let me tell you, this story of Kevin's snowboarding accident has brought me plenty of laughs and joy from telling it.  However, it is going to be a LONG 2 weeks with this patient!

Morning sweets

I've had a mini donut maker for several years now, however, I think I have only used it a handful of times.  For whatever reason, the boys spotted the donut maker a couple of days ago and have been bugging for them ever since.  As a surprise, I made Valentine donuts for breakfast.

They actually turned out pretty cute.  Just look at their cute petite size.

I think everything looks better in mini size especially these sweet ones.

Holden and Rylan loved the donuts!  I suppose I need to look up some more recipes so they can enjoy these more often.  But for now, this was a sweet beginning for these two.

2 Month Stats

Today was Leyton's 2 Month check-up and here are his current stats:

Weight: 11 lbs 2oz
Length: 23 inches
Head Circumference: 15 inches

I can not believe it has already been 2 months with this sweet little guy.

Future Snowboarder?

Friday we received a couple of inches of snow but the real snow came Saturday afternoon.  As soon as it started falling, the boys were outside and ready to play.  The last time it snowed Holden had the bright idea to try to "snowboard" on his sled.  It worked, and he had a blast.  So the first thing he did when he went out this weekend was "snowboarding".  Look, he has the stance down, and his balance was great.

He kept going down the hill over and over again.

After Rylan helped Kevin clear the driveway,

it was his turn to "snowboard".

Would you know it, little bit was able to do it too!  Sure he had fun but he had much rather throw snowballs at Dad and eat the snow.

I know for some the snow is growing old but for these two, they could play for hours and that is just what they did.
