Saying Goodbye to Friends

I originally thought Atlanta was a very transient city.  However, now, I feel that way about Cincinnati.   This is probably the third set of good friends that we have made here that are moving away.  First it was my friend and running buddy Sarah and her family, which I miss terribly, another family that we knew through baseball, and now Rylan's best buddy Grant!  You may recall we spent Thanksgiving with this family last year and over the past couple of months we have really grown to love them all.  The kids play well together and enjoy seeing each other.  Well, would you know, they are moving. Rylan does not really understand that they are moving far away and that he will not get to see him.  I am sure in time this will sink in.  I especially feel sorry for Rylan because this was his first real friend he made on his own.  Not one from a playgroup or through one of Holden's friends.  This was his own special friend.  And if you could see these two together, you would know that they both are one of a kind!  Two peas in a pod per say.

Well, this past Thursday was the big moving day.  Rylan and I put together a "goodbye package".  He wanted to give him their favorite snack that they always eat together...popcorn, chocolate chips, and marshmallows.

Oh and gum!  We put a picture of these two buddies in a frame from him to have.

One last wild and fun play date before we all say our goodbyes.

Gosh we are really going to miss these guys!    Especially little Rylan!

We went UP, UP, UP...

VBS is this week at our church.  To kickoff the week, they hosted a festival on Sunday.  I took Holden and Rylan and the babe stayed at home with Kevin.  I knew they would enjoy it.  There were bounce houses galore, dunking booths, carnival games, food, ice cream, and hot air balloon rides.  Yes, you read that correctly, hot air balloon rides.  Let me clarify that the hot air balloon was tethered to the ground so it only went up about 200-300 feet in the air but still an exciting ride.  Rylan really wanted to go up and I thought to myself, when would get the chance to do this again? And so we did.  We went UP, UP, UP!

Rylan was amazed and really enjoyed it, Holden was a little more in shock but enjoyed the ride too.  It was a very cool experience and I am so glad I gave in and allowed us to go UP!

Pirates Ahoy!

I usually plan outings for earlier in the week but this time we planned them towards the end of the week.  First request from the boys was Pirates of Hilton Head.

As we walked up to check in look who was on their advertisement....

look to the left.  See anyone that looks familiar?

Holden and Rylan from 2 years ago! Hilarious!  Before boarding the Black Dagger the boys got tattoos, mustaches and their pirate names.  (Riptide Rylan and Captain Holden)

Even Kevin got a mustache for the occasion.  Leyton was not so sure about the mustache but these little pirate were ready for an adventure.

As the Black Dagger left shore, we set out on a search for the treasure.

We searched high and low and received a message that Stinky Pete had the keys to unlock the treasure. Stinky Pete came up on his boat and it was time to battle.

Rylan was having such a great time spraying Stinky Pete.

Holden was too.

Stinky Pete finally surrendered and handed over the keys to the treasure.  Once they opened the treasure, the kids got a huge handful to bring home with them.

Once back ashore we went to the Park at Sea Pines which had the best climbing trees for the kids.

We head to the beach when we got back to catch some waves.

The waves were really rough but somehow Rylan found a sand dollar and was so proud of himself!

That night we went to a water front dinner with these three.  Oh, what an adventure!  Just kidding, they actually all did great and the music was so loud that even if they did make noise I am sure they would not have been able to hear them.

Our last full day, we planned a Nature Dolphin Cruise but as luck would have it, it began to rain as we left for the cruise and they cancelled the trip.  The kids were so bummed but we made the most of the day and once it stopped raining for a bit we headed to the beach.  Since it looked like it was going to pour at any moment, I did not bring my camera with us however, I did capture some our our day with my phone.  We played in the sand and made sand castles too.

As we packed up and headed out Saturday morning, the boys told us how much they were going to miss the beach and especially their nightly bike rides to the General Store for slushies and ice cream of course.

Well, this years trip was the first of many as a family of 5.  Until next year, where Rylan has already informed me that we have to do the Nature Dolphin Cruise the first day instead of the last.  I think I can arrange that for him.

Beach Bums

Again, we spent the morning at the beach.

Leyton slept while the boys played and fished.

Well, Kevin and boys tried to fish.  They caught what they call a "whitey",  which is a fish they use to catch sharks.

I know they had huge expectations of catching something huge but with the wind and luck, this little whitey was the only thing they caught.

However, it did not seem to bother anyone the sun and sand were fine for these three.

I will say, trying to get a picture with all three looking at the camera is impossible but I do love this picture.

Leyton is smiling at the water as he has his little hands on his brothers and the other two are just enjoying themselves.  In other words, this captures more of our life, not perfect but enjoying these moments.

The boys rode bikes after dinner and then we all went out crabbing.  Don't these two look prepared!

Well, they may have looked the part however, we did not have any luck catching crabs.  In fact, we did not see a one.

Even others who we talked to on the beach did not catch any either.  It was the weirdest thing.  I was wondering if maybe it had something to do with the moon or maybe it was just our luck.I guess it is better luck next year.
