Fat Tuesday Celebration

It's Mardi Gras time!  And that can only mean one thing...time for a celebration.  In past years, I had our celebration in the morning with the breakfast table decorated as a surprise.  However, with school beginning at 7:30, I opted for an after school surprise.  When Holden and Rylan came home from school, I had Mardi Gras music playing and the table decorated with beads, coins, masks and King Cake.

As the boys indulged in king cake I tried to explain the meaning of the Mardi Gras colors like I do every year.  Nothing like a brief history lesson as you are trying to eat.  The colors come from the history of the day as preceding Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. These three seasons of Epiphany (Green), Lent (Purple) and Easter (Yellow/Gold).

I think this year the boys are actually understanding the meaning of Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent.

Fat Tuesday is all about indulgence and these three really did.

There is just something about beads and masks that make these three go wild.  Who needs Bourbon Street when we have Leyton putting on a show.

Rylan jumped in on the fun as well.

We danced around to the Mardi Gras Mambo and as they say in New Orleans, "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" translated, "Let the good times roll."
