All aboard the Polar Express!!!

Back in October I purchase tickets for boys and I to ride on The Polar Express Train.  I was planning on making the night a "date with Mom."  However, fast forward a few months and I ended up having foot surgery.  The idea of being on crutches in the Wisconsin snow with all three boys made me a little nervous.  We quickly decided it would be best if Kevin went with me and the little boys to help out.  Holden was not too bummed to miss out on the fun since he had basketball practice rescheduled for the night.  It worked out that Kevin's parents arrive yesterday for Christmas and they could help out with Holden.   Meanwhile, Kevin and I took the little ones out to dinner before we boarded the Polar Express!

Rylan and Leyton were so excited!  Especially Leyton!!!

As the story goes, the train horn blew and we boarded our train car.  It was so cute and cozy.  As soon as we boarded I knew we were in for a get time because our train staff was dancing and interacting with the kids.

We danced, we sang, we laughed and we drank hot chocolate!

Funny story, when we received our hot chocolate Rylan took one sip and looked at me an said, "Mom, its not as good as yours, I do not think I can drink it!"  Gosh, he is so spoiled!

We ate cookies and the conductor came by to punch our "golden tickets".

Then all of a sudden, the train pulled into the North Pole and guess who came on the train with his elves....Santa!

Leyton was waving and kept his mouth open in awe as he approached our table.  Santa gave the boys bells before he went on his way.

As we headed back to the train station, the boys danced and laughed some more.

Such a fun night to see the boys light up with the Christmas magic.  Leyton is at such a perfect age that I can not wait to see his excitement on Christmas morning!

As much as tried to convince Kevin to wear pajamas on the train, he would not give in but he did wear his Santa hat all night.  I am so grateful he was able to come along and help and I know enjoyed seeing the boys so excited and having fun.

We wish Holden could have joined us for the experience but we are planning something special for him.   I have to say it was such a fun night on the Polar Express with these little loves.

Only 2 more sleeps until Christmas Day!

Life Lately...

December is always a busy month with holiday celebrations, school activities, Leyton's birthday, sports, family fun and how can we forget, Christmas.  Well, this year, we can add recovering from surgery.  Say what?!  What was I thinking!  Let me back up, here is a little background.  I have always had terrible feet but I've learned to just live with the pain and honestly, I was not ever planning on doing anything about it until.... Over the summer my second toe dislocated from the bone.  Honestly, I did not feel any pain and I can not tell you when it happened.  I just kept working out every morning and going on with our active lifestyle until I realized that my second toe would not go back into position.   Yes, only then was when I decided to go to the doctor.

Shortly after getting x-rays my doctor referred me to a specialist.

I knew at that point I had to do something as much as I did not want to.   So let's fast forward to last Thursday, I almost backed out of the surgery but my doctor explain to me the damage that I would cause by not correcting all of the issues.

Since we do not have family here, Kevin and the kids dropped me off at the surgery center around 6:45 am.  Kevin then took all of the kids to school before rushing back to see me before I went into the operating room.  As far as the pre-surgery and actual surgery, everything went great except for the IV, the poor nurse ended up popping two of my vein and I almost passed out but other than that minor derailment, everything went really well.   The nurses and all of the staff were fabulous!  They explained everything and were really amazing at calming my nerves.  My doctor was able to reattach the ligaments to the bone on the bottom of my foot, he took out part of three bones to help elevate the pressure on my toe and straighten out two bones.  Now, I am the owner of 4 screws, 3 are permeant and one will be taken out in 6 weeks.

We returned home around 12:30 and my little sidekick joined me on the couch as we began the journey to recovery.

Now being a week removed from the surgery I am feeling okay.  I can not put any weight on my left foot yet because of the stitches and healing process so I have been jumping around on crutches which I HATE!  Seriously, I can not stand not running around but I know in the long run, this was the best decision.  We have watched movies and yes, all of the kids love to sit all around me.  Next week I get stitches out, more x-rays and a walking boot.  Hopefully, I will feel a little more like myself once I can walk a little more freely.

Agg, until then, I am going to make the most of cuddling and slowing down during this Christmas season.  It will be one that I will for sure remember for awhile.

Our Annual North Pole Breakfast

Sunday was the perfect day for our Annual North Pole Breakfast.  The snow was falling and it was a Winter Wonderland just outside our window.  I will admit that I do love snow during the Christmas season.  It just feels so cozy with the twinkling lights and gorgeous snow outside.

For our Annual North Pole Breakfast the kids all received new pajamas to wear on Christmas Eve.

I made reindeer pancakes and Santa hats for breakfast and of course, hot cocoa.  It was nice to not have to rush to get somewhere like we usually do.

After breakfast, we made our way outside to play in the snow for most of the day.

It was such a fun winter day spent together with our North Pole Breakfast and family fun in the snow.
