Earth Day

What a busy day! This morning we had a play date with Holden's friend from preschool, Will. He has a younger brother that is Rylan's age, so it worked out perfectly. I wish I would have had my camera, they were all having the best time together!

After naps, we had a follow-up appointment with the ENT. Holden told the nurse as he walked in, "We can't stay here long we have to go somewhere special" Luck was on our side and she was in a good mood, all you need is a 4 year old telling you that you taking forever. That "somewhere special" was our favorite park, Pine Hill Lakes, to participate in the Earth Day Walk. We got there just in time! We received an Earth Day t-shirt to commemorate the 40th anniversary and then started walking. After we completed our walk, there were volunteers passing out trees and plants for us to grow at home, games for the kids, Earth Day books donated by 1/2 Price Books, water bottles, and cookies! What a fun event to help support the preservation of our Earth.

Speaking of preservation, you can not preserve with out recycling, and at 1/2 Pint Kids Cooking this week we made planters out of egg cartons. Clever and Cute! Now, let's just hope they sprout:)
Happy Earth Day!

Wild Card

We have given Holden has a couple of nicknames:

The Bear-because you never, ever want to wake this sleeping boy. He will growl at you like a bear!

Little Old Man-because every morning he has to have his chocolate milk, cereal bar, and sit on the couch to have both before he will "eat" his breakfast. Just like a little old man and his coffee and newspaper. Routine, Routine, Routine!!

But my favorite way to describe Holden is that he is my Wild Card. The reason is you never know how he will react to something. Hence the Wild Card!

For the past couple of months he has been telling me he wants to take tennis lessons (the time for lessons did not work for us), golf lesson (lessons do not start until summer), play baseball (too young), play football (too young), play basketball (again, too young). Never once did he say he wanted to play soccer, but I signed him up anyways. We all remember the last experience with soccer don't we?? If not let me recap. he followed his shadow the entire time, made a goal in the other teams goal, was constantly asking for snack or water break, and who could forget, tackling the opponents like it was football. Oh fun memories!
But really what was I thinking signing him up again? But what the heck, lets try it again. We bought new cleats, shin guards, and shorts together and he was soooo excited. A good sign! As we were walking up to practice and his teammates, he started shying up which I thought was trouble, but he took a deep breathe and introduced himself to a couple of little boys and was fine. Actually he was better than fine...he was pretty good! He followed the drills, followed the rules, made a couple of goals, and had tons of fun.He told me he wanted to go back and that he loved soccer. What a shock! See what I mean about being a wild card. I am just hoping his enthusiasm continues for Saturdays game. Remember he is my Wild Card, he can change at a moments notice. You never know what to expect!

Best Friends

On the car ride home from swimming today, I looked back and saw this....
They were holding hands! Isn't it sweet!!

I know Rylan thinks the world of Holden and now I am starting to see that love returned to Rylan. They really are becoming the best of friends.

A Crush??

It is Spring and all the kids are out playing! Holden has made lots of new friends on our street, however, we live on a street of all girls!! Really there must have been something in the water.

Today, the boys and I were out playing and we hear Allie (two houses down) yelling Holden's name. She comes running over to our house and embraces Holden and tells him that she has been searching for him forever. I need to mention that she is a little dramatic, but cute. They had fun playing together or rather pulling out every item in the garage.

When it was time to go in to eat dinner Holden told her "Goodbye, I'll see you tomorrow" Allie comes over and hugs him again and then proceeds to kiss him on the cheek!! Holden said, "Why did you do that?" Allie replies, "Because I love you and I am going to marry you." Then just like the movies, she hops on her little scooter and rides home. Holden sat there for a minute and then yells at her, "I can't marry you. I am marrying Momma." As Allie is scooting home she turned and waved. I was waiting on her to start blowing kisses....what just happened here??? I did mention she is a little dramatic but I think she may have watched one too many Disney Princess movies. I do not know, just a thought.

I started laughing, but I am not sure what I think is funnier, her professing her love or the fact that Holden want to marry me?

Oh no, I think we might have a crush but I am not so sure Holden is ok with it.

The dramas of young love begins? Really at 4?!

That Pesky Bird

A couple of weeks ago, I was reading a friends blog and laughing at her story of a bird flying into her window and trying to get rid of it. Well, as luck would have it, we are having the same trouble here now! I knew I should have not laughed!
Our little pesky friend showed up Easter weekend and has made our top window his new home. Morning after morning he will fly into the window, then he pecks on the window, and then he paces back and forth on the ledge. After a week and a half of this annoyance, it was really getting on Kevin's nerves. He decided to clean the window thinking it would not like the smell of ammonia, yep he still showed up. Last night, Kevin said that before he left town this morning he would "take care" of this bird once and for all. I was thinking he was going to place a scarecrow or even and owl in the window.

Right isn't that what you would think? Wrong again, look at his attempt to scare the bird off....

The kids orange stuffed fish...NEMO!!! Can you believe this? I am not sure my hubby is quite the hunter/protector I had thought.
Not only did it not scare the bird off, he actually attracted two more friends. I know if I could understand bird talk I would hear,"Hey look friends this Jack-in-the-box thinks this is going to scare me? You have got to be kidding me, come see this!"

Oh what to do!! I think I need to put my thinking cap on, seeing that Kevin is way off his block.

Final Day of Spring Break!

Today was our final outing of Spring Break. It was a cold one! I think this morning it was only in the 40's. So much for Spring! Despite the weather, we ventured to Parky's Farm for Fantastic Farm Friday's. Our friends met up with us again for a day on the farm. Where do I start, this place has it all for my little farmers/cowboys! Pony rides, farm demonstrations, educational talks, tractor rides, a farm play area, animals, and even fishing! WOW!!! What a great way to end our week of adventures! My poor babies have had so much fun that they are pooped out!!!
What a great week, filled with lots of memories and fun. All of this week's activities has me thinking and planning for our summer break. I can not wait!

On our final day, Holden "cashed in" his coupon for a movie at Blockbuster to watch for movie night! Ahh, now it is time to relax!
Happy Spring!

Spring Break-Day 4

Day 4 of Spring Break we met our friends Sarah, Brady, & Cal at the Museum Center. It was raining and Spring Break....BIG MISTAKE! The museum was packed!! So much that it was making me way to nervous. We ended up not staying long. But the kids did not seem to mind. Here are a couple of pictures from this morning.
The funniest part of today had to be when Rylan woke up from his nap. He was laughing and squealing before I walked in and just look what he was up to...

He completely undressed himself! But the best part is, he is so proud of himself. What a little rascal!

Verdict of day 4: Never, ever, go to the museum center during Spring Break! Trust me I learned my lesson!

Our final outing is tomorrow and Holden is excited! I just hope it lives up to his expectations and I hope the weather cooperates.

Spring Break-Day 3

Day 3 of Spring Break led us to the Cincinnati Zoo. Where we were joined by our potluck friends! Just look at these kiddos, don't they look so cute!
Here are some of the highlights from today:
We were just in time to hear the zookeeper talk about penguins and was even greeted by one too. (Look at the kids sitting and listening. They really were all so good!)Besides the animals, the tulips were by far my favorite! They were gorgeous!

Verdict of Day 3: The kids were great and they all seemed to have a blast together.

Spring Break-Day 2

Day 2 of Spring Break: We visited Highfield Discovery Garden. This was our first time to visit this park and it was ADORABLE! It is a children's garden with seven smaller gardens such as the Frog & Toad Garden, Wizard's Garden, Trolley Garden, Vegetable Garden, Grandma's Scent Garden, & Butterfly Garden. But the highlight was the 25' foot Discovery Tree house. I scheduled our arrival so that we could attend the Garden Workshop. This weeks theme was "Natures Colors". Holden even did a science project, you place old milk in a bowl, add one drop of each color of food coloring (make sure they do not touch) and then place the magic wand (a q-tip with Dawn dish washing soap on the end) in the center and then the colors swirl! It sound weird but it was really neat. Throughout the garden there were items to find on a scavenger hunt sheet, thankfully we found them all. Holden was not leaving otherwise!

After hours of fun in the garden, we had our picnic lunch. I do not think we could have picked a better day, it was beautiful outside. I am so glad I found this place, what a gem!

After naps, Holden "cashed in" his coupon for ice cream at The Cone!
Verdict: Day 2 of Spring Break, a hit and fun by all!
