Countdown to Turkey

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away?! I can not! Even though we have the house decorated with turkeys, pumpkins, scarecrows and more! To get the boys excited about Thanksgiving, we have been busy with activities but nothing like our Halloween countdown! We painted pine cones, which sounds so simple but the boys did this forever! Here is what we decided to do with those pine cones once they dried. We made hand turkeys with glue and lots of feathers! Our countdown would not be complete without some holiday treats, fall owls, turkey chocolate pops and scarecrow cookies for a movie night treat. I have a couple of fun crafts, treats and books planned as we finish up the last weeks before Thanksgiving!

Simple Pleasures

No matter what type of mood the boys are in, the mention of bubbles puts an instant smile on their faces. And the promise of a bubble bath...pure bliss! I guess it is easy to see, the simplest things are the most treasured!

He's makin' his list!

Every year we get the Toy Wish book from Toys 'R Us and Holden goes through and circles everything he wants or likes. However this year, I think we have received at least 3 Toy Christmas Wish books this week alone. Today, Holden started circling and making his list for Santa!
And since Rylan was napping, he circled a couple of toys for him too. Go figure!
I guess Santa better get to working on the wish list. At this point there are only three items but I am sure that will change.

Where are all the soldiers??

The boys preschool holds an annual Veterans Day luncheon, where the kids perform a couple of songs to the group. Yesterday, Holden sang, danced, and "performed" just as expected. After the group sang three of their chapel songs they were able to leave. Once we got in the car Holden says, "Mom, where were all the soldiers? If you do not have soldiers it is not a celebration." If you are wondering why he said that, here is the crowd of veterans...I guess I should have explained what a Veteran was a little better than I did. Whoops!

The first of many...

The temperatures have dropped around here, which means the beginning of another LONG winter! YUCK! Thankfully, this year I "think" we are a little more prepared with inside activities to curve our boredom. One of my ideas, was to have a game night. So, last night we had our first Family Game Night! Since Rylan is still a little young for board games, I tried to think of some games that we play that both boys enjoy. After choosing several, I set them all up in the basement for us to play. Here is a glimpse from our first family game night...Don't Break the Ice, HyperDash, Gone Fishing, Elefun, TossAcross, Farm Families, and a couple more. And the night would not be complete without popcorn munch! Yes, it is safe to say our first Family Game Night was a huge hit for all of us!! I am sure this is the first of many!!! As a matter of fact, Kevin and Holden have already started planning which games we will play next time! Gotta love my little planners!

Halloween 2010

Our Halloween festivities started with a couple tricks and treats! The "little" mice were a hit! HA!
The theme for our family this year was Pirates, yes again! I know, I was trying to get Holden to be a cowboy this year, but no such luck! He had his heart set on being a pirate, again! I am sure next year Rylan will have a little more say in what he wants to be but until then he loved being a pirate. ARRR!!! Yesterday was also our church's annual Trunk-or-Treat, which we all know I love! Just in case you needed a closer look...
Rylan and Holden both loved helping me pass out candy to the kids. I think they liked it just as much as they did trunk-or-treating.Here are a couple of our favorite trunks,
Mrs. Marsha is our preschool director and is such a neat lady. I did not get her feet in this picture but she was on roller skates, skating around! The boys loved it!
After Trunk-or-Treat we head back for our neighborhood's festivities. Here is our attempt to capture the kids from our cul-de-sac before trick-or-treating.And then the kids were off and running! (literally)
Some of our neighbors go all out for Halloween, just look at this car crash. They even had a fog machine to look like the car was smoking.
Did I mention that it was FREEZING? Well, it was! After hitting several houses up for candy, we made our way back to get warm and roast some marshmallows.
It was a busy but fun Halloween. Now, I need to start planning for next year. Happy Halloween!
