Christmas Treats

I love making holiday treats, especially at this time of the year. Here are just a couple of treat I've made in the past couple of days. As we are wishing for a "White Christmas" I thought these snowman donuts would help our cause. Then there are cookies to make, I think I have made over 24 dozen between parties, neighbor gifts, teacher gifts, and whoever else I could think of but I think the cutest ones were Rudolph. And since I love my waffle maker so much, I thought up these Santa Hats. I found a cute waffle Christmas tree on Pintrest but I am saving that for closer to the actual day. Finally, the boys gifts for friends, I made Christmas tree brownies with a cookie cutter attached. There are so many other fun treats to make but these are just a few of our favorites this year.

Pack the kids up...

One of the boys favorite activities during the holidays is to go look at the lights. We get our pj's on, pop the popcorn, cook the cookies and plop in the car to find the best lights around the neighborhoods. The boys love the houses that you tune your radio to a station and the lights dance to the songs. And then there are the houses that do not have a piece of grass that is not covered by the lights or a lighted yard ornament, these are favorites too. Christmas lights, christmas lights, and more christmas lights, I do not think the boys will ever grow old looking for the best decorated houses.

A holiday filled weekend

The phrase, "The most wonderful time of the year" should be revised to " The most busiest time of the year." School, playgroup, parties, and activities make for one busy time. Not that I am complaining. But with that said, I am finally getting a chance to post about our fun holiday filled weekend. We started out Saturday morning at the Museum Center to see the holiday trains. As we were walking through entrance, we were greeted with belly dancers. Not sure what that has to do with the holidays but the boys thought they were hilarious or as Rylan would say, "they are naked and funny" Look at these two! We viewed several trains before exploring the rest of the museum. On the way home we stopped at Prasco Park's for An Evening with Santa. As I have said several times before, Prasco always puts on the best events and I knew this one would not disappoint. As we walked in to see Santa there were old toys displayed everywhere and Santa was surrounded by elves and beautiful trees. The boys shared their wish list with Santa and took lots and lots of pictures. After Santa we moved into a room that they called Candyland. I have one word for this room, "WOW!" There were cookies, candy, a hot chocolate bar, cupcakes, and cake pops galore! The pictures do not do this event justice. There was no detail left out! I wish you could have seen the boys eyes! They were fill with joy of candy and sugar delights! After enjoying several beautiful treats it was time to leave but not before they received a gift and a children's bible. What a wonderful event and it was all free, yes, free. The owners do this event to give back to the community and to share the love of Christ with everyone. All I can say is incredible!
Sunday afternoon, we went back to Prasco Park for Ice Skating. Holden and I did this last year together and this year we wanted to go as a family. This was Rylan's first time to ice skate and he was loving it! Holden took a couple of minutes to get the hang of it but once he did he was off and skating around. We had such a fun family day ice skating, drinking hot chocolate, and enjoying the season together. These memories will last long past the holiday season all thanks to Prasco Park and another wonderful family holiday weekend.

More Elf Mischief

Our Elf Christian has gotten into more mischief this week. First he was found hanging upside down in the pantry drinking the honey, next he was found reading his own book, then he was found the next day coloring, and thankfully the next morning he was found taking a nap, I guess all this fun has tired him out. Well, so I thought, he was found in refrigerator trying to get a coke the very next day, then he decided to battle it out with the good knights, and then finally this morning he was found taking a relaxing bubble bath. To hear the boys scream when they find Christian each morning is priceless. This little Elf is surly loved, I just wonder where he will end up next?!

Saint Nicholas Day

Happy Saint Nicholas Day!

This is our first official year to celebrate this holiday. Last year, several of my friends were going on and on about Saint Nicholas Day and what all they did to celebrate. I loved their ideas and wanted to start our own family traditions this year. You may wonder how I explained this day since we did not celebrate in years past, well, I read the story of Saint Nicholas to the boys. Then just explained that Mommy, yes, I took the blame, forgot to remind you to leave your shoes out the night before and he only come if your shoes are out. They understood everything and went along but they did not let forget to leave their shoes out this year! If you are like me and do not know alot about Saint Nicholas, in many places St. Nicholas is the main gift giver. His feast day, St. Nicholas Day, is December 6, which falls early in the Advent season. If children have been good he comes in the night an delivers small treats.

On the eve of St. Nicholas day, shoes or stockings are left for St. Nicholas to fill during the night. Children will find treats of small gifts, fruit or nuts, and special Nicholas candies and cookies.

Last night when I asked which shoes do you want to leave out tonight. Holden quickly decided on his boots, to which Rylan followed. As they were finding there boots, I looked over and saw Holden with a container of Clorox Wipes cleaning their boots! Now, I am sure that Clorox is probably not the best element to use on leather boots but it was sweet to see him cleaning both of their boots so they looked good for Saint Nicholas.
They decided to leave cookies along with some milk to wash them down with. If you are wondering about the Cutie orange, somehow from the story I read, they picked up that he left fruit for children. They both thought it would be nice to leave him some fruit too. We placed the nicely clean, and germ free, boots by the fireplace and anxiously awaited to see if he would come. When the boys woke this morning, they were surprised to find treats in their boots and a note from Saint Nicholas. If only you could hear the excitement this morning, it was such fun.Christmas is such a magical time and time passes by so quickly. I know that adding this tradition for our family will only bring wonderful memories for years to come.
