Turkeys & Pilgrims, Oh My!

Just a couple of days until Thanksgiving, Turkeys and Pilgrims were today's activities theme. I love to have an activity planned for them to do while I make lunch. It keeps them busy and it gives us a chance to all do something together before Rylan naps. First, the boys made foam turkeys and then Pilgrims. Aren't they cute! We could not stop with just an art project, we decided to make Pilgrim hats and turkey treats too. These are our yearly tradition as we countdown the days till Thanksgiving. Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!

Rylan the little artist

Lately Rylan has come home with the cutest art projects from preschool. Now, I know he has "help" completing his masterpieces but these are memory book keepers!

First his Turkey hand print....really how cute is this. I have a similar one of Holden's hand at this age that was made into a tile but this one I just had to frame!
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, they stamped out train cars and then were asked what they were thankful for. I had a hard time getting a picture of the entire train, since Rylan loves to paint and also, he is thankful for so much, his train was extra long! In case you can not see, he is thankful for, it says Church, School, Trains, Miss Adele (she is funny), Animals, Candy, Boots, Holden, Daddy, Mommy, God! So sweet. I can actually hear him saying some of them, especially about Miss Adele. Rylan is a character and I am so glad that he is showing his true personality at school and is having a great time while he is there. Can't wait to see his next creations from school, my little Picasso!

The little bakers

As soon as the boys hear I am going to bake something, they flock to me!! In an instant they are underneath me willing to help. With their willingness to help always comes with a battle of who gets to use the sifter first. I have had my sifter forever, actually it is the same one I won in a 4-H Biscuit Baking Contest in 6th or 7th grade. Yes, I know, crazy right! One that I have had it this long and never lost it or gave it away, and two, that I have not made homemade biscuits in years! Back to today, it was just like any other, both boys were wanting to use the sifter, first, go figure! Don't they look like little bakers?!
And here is the HUGE mess we made!!! Always an adventure cooking with these two!! It's a good thing Kevin is out of town!

Day Trip!

Saturday we decided to take a little day trip to visit COSI in Columbus, Ohio. COSI is the acronym for Center of Science and Industry and was voted the #1 Science Center in the country and I can see why. The boys had a great time exploring all the hands on exhibits which began as soon as we walked in the door. The oceans exhibit with a real submarine that the boys were able to sit in. Talk about tight quarters!! the space exhibit with robots that they could control, I am not sure you can see but at the far left end is Holden pulling the rope that then pulled the car up off the ground. He thought this was the coolest and kept saying "how strong he was" yes, all 36 pounds!!! HA! Rylan loved dressing up as a doctor in the Kidszone. Here are his sick patients...such great actors. I think I see future professions right before my eyes, Rylan the "doctor" and Holden the "actor"! Suit their personalities to a tee. Some other activities in the Kidszone the boys enjoyed were, figuring out which animal each x-ray film was, viewing the electricity currents, and the air shooting up from a pipe is always a hit.
Here is a look of downtown Columbus! All and all, COSI was well worth the drive (a little over an hour) for a day filled with science and exploration! Not to mention it was free with our Cincinnati museum passes...what could be better than that!

Countdown to Turkey

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away?! I can not! Even though we have the house decorated with turkeys, pumpkins, scarecrows and more! To get the boys excited about Thanksgiving, we have been busy with activities but nothing like our Halloween countdown! We painted pine cones, which sounds so simple but the boys did this forever! Here is what we decided to do with those pine cones once they dried. We made hand turkeys with glue and lots of feathers! Our countdown would not be complete without some holiday treats, fall owls, turkey chocolate pops and scarecrow cookies for a movie night treat. I have a couple of fun crafts, treats and books planned as we finish up the last weeks before Thanksgiving!

Simple Pleasures

No matter what type of mood the boys are in, the mention of bubbles puts an instant smile on their faces. And the promise of a bubble bath...pure bliss! I guess it is easy to see, the simplest things are the most treasured!
