Introducing the newest Bengals fan...

When we first moved here, Holden became fascinated by the Bengals football team. Mainly because of the color, you know orange is his favorite, and secondly, because it seems like everyone here is a fan. They have stickers, magnets, decals, you name it, it is plastered on their cars and talk about team spirit, everyone has a jersey, shirt, cap, pants you name, people are wearing it! Crazy, I tell you! Slowly, over the past year Holden has become a fan. He started asking me to record the games so he could watch them, then he started asking to go to a game. One night at bedtime last week, Holden said, "Daddy, when are you going to take me to a Bengals game?" That night, Kevin check the schedule and realized that the last home game they could attend was on the upcoming Sunday. Kevin asked around and searched for tickets all week. Finally, he was able to snag 2 Club level seats for the two of them on Craigslist. Holden was beyond excited when we told him that he was going to the game on Sunday. If you could have only seen his face! Even at church on Sunday, his Sunday school teacher told us that she was so excited he was getting to go to the game. She said he had a grin from ear to ear all morning!
Now, Rylan was not too happy he was not going. He screamed and cried and screamed and cried!
Next time, we will all have to go to a game but this was a last minute idea.
After I layered and bundled Holden with warm clothes, they set off they to the big game!
Kevin said Holden was grinning the entire drive down to the stadium! Once they were there, they watched the team practice, shoot off fireworks, and yes, watched the much anticipated big game. Kevin said he sat and watched the ENTIRE game not once complaining of the cold or wanting to leave. He was even up cheering and chanting "Go Bengal, Go Bengals" Did I mention the temperature were in the 20's? And the newest fan must have brought some luck to the Bengals.... they WON!! HA! They have not won a game since September!
Once they were back in the car, Holden called to tell me all about the game and how much fun he had. When I asked what was his favorite part, he replied, "Everything!"
It reminds me of the George Strait song "Best Day" chorus:
"Dad, this could be the best day of my life.
I've been dreamin' day and night about the fun we'll have.
Just me and you doin' what I've always wanted to.
I'm the luckiest boy alive,
This is the best day of my life."
I am so glad they were able to have this first football game experience together. As Kevin said, the game with Holden and his excitement was well worth the money!!

More Holiday Treats...

We have been busy making all kinds of treats to celebrate the Christmas season. Here are just a couple of fun and easy ones the boys indulged in!!

Santa sleighs! These are so simple, just a graham cracker, icing, mini candy canes, a fruit roll-up or licorice, and sprinkles. A perfect treat for a cold and dreary day! A little bit of tasting never hurt anyone! Bottoms up:) Do not worry, Holden and Rylan each have their own sprinkle container just for this reason! And I have a separate one for treats that I make!

Star cookie trees!! After making star cookie cutouts, I let the boys assemble and decorate their trees any way they wished. I really expected both of them to eat their creations after they were complete, but Holden told me, "It's too beautiful to eat" Instead, their little trees are on display on our cake stand. I guess he is right they are awfully, cute!

And lastly, a family favorite...chocolate covered pretzels! But these would not be complete without sprinkles too!
I have tons of pictures of treats and crafts we have done over the past week, it is just finding the time to post them all!

Well, hopefully, I will get to it soon! But if not, we are making great memories this holiday season, even if it takes me twice as long to clean up our messes as it does to create them each day! Happy Holidays!

Christmas Parties...times TWO!!

After our unexpected snow day, preschool was back in session today. Just in time for the boys Christmas parties. I forgot to take a picture of the goodies we made for their teachers and teachers but here is a picture of the bag all put together. Here is a rundown of our back-to-back Christmas parties! Holden's party began first with their Christmas pageant. The kids made all of their props for their version of the Christmas story. Holden was a candle! Here is a snip it of the songs they sang...

Aren't those the sweetest voices!

And what would a party be with out food! Check out this spread of yummy treats! Holden was giddy to say the least!
Here is just one of the many creations Holden made for us. I just love the poem!
This Christmas Angel is special you see,
Because it is a part of me!
The wings are my hands,
The body my feet!
With each passing Christmas,
It will always look sweet!

Kevin was able to attend the morning parties, which helped me out a ton!! Even though I like having both parties on the same day, I feel torn and rushed between the two but having Kevin there, we were able to swap in the middle of each party. Hence, we could attend both!

Rylan's party began with his class shaking their jungle bells down the hall. Look at how excited he is! My little ham! Then it was time to party! Again look at the spread....but look closely at how creative all the moms are, make your own Christmas cut out sandwiches, crackers with star cheese, polar bear cookies, reindeer cookies, and my cupcakes! Holden could not decide which ones he wanted me to make so, I made both! Ornament cupcakes and Rudolph cupcakes. Here is a closer look at the ornaments, and the Rudolph cupcakes.
Rylan played games, made a cute pine cone ornament dipped in glue and then topped it with his all time favorite...glitter (Rylan LOVES glitter, so much that it is hidden in our house and only used under parental supervision!), and a book exchange. As a take home gift, an ornament for our Charlie Brown tree. I love the picture of Rylan! Adorable!! He loved it too, he kept kissing his picture!
Another set of fun parties and sweet memories!

Double Dose (another snow day)

Yesterday was yet another snow day! I think we received another 5 or 6 inches of snow. Crazy to think, the official first day of winter is still a couple of days away. My thoughts are winter has arrived and is here to stay for awhile!

We spent most of the morning in our pajamas cooking, playing, and trying our best to keep warm! However, we did manage to make one cute craft, frozen wreaths! Perfect for us these days. First, the boys placed their choice of cranberries, limes, oranges, and rosemary in the bottom of a container, then we poured water over the boys creations, and placed in the freezer. After they were completely frozen, we tied a ribbon around and voila...a frozen wreath! And by now you should know that Holden and Rylan are not about to let a snow day go by without playing in this reoccurring winter wonderland. So here they are having some snowy fun!
