Off to the races!!

Ok, I must fess up, the real reason we wanted to get back down to Lexington was to go to the races at Keeneland. The boys have been begging after we saw the workouts at Spring Break to see a real race. At Keeneland they only have races twice a year for 3 weeks in April and 3 weeks in October. I know October is always busy with fall festivals and such so we decided what better time than now. We bought General Admission tickets because the boys wanted to be as close as possible to the track so we got there early and found our seats. As we walked in the gates, the boys received activities books and crayons, which helped pass the time before the races. We watched the horses warm up in the Paddock. Sunday was also Keeneland's salute to our military. Over 1000 soldiers marched in the stadium for the crowd to thank them for their duties. This is what makes you proud to be an American! To see these young brave soldiers risking their lives for our freedom. What a sight! Shortly, after getting our bets in, the horns blew for the races to begin! As you can see we had front row seats!!! The boys had a ball! They were yelling," go 3, go 4, go 1, go Hurricane" It was so cute! They loved every minute of it. Wouldn't you know it, Holden and Rylan both won several of their bets and Kevin and I won NOTHING! After our visit this weekend, we have decided this is our new family spring tradition to go to the races at Keeneland. The boys loved the horses and I felt like I was back in at Ole Miss. The ladies were done up to the nines, guys in khakis and button downs, people tailgating like you are at an SEC football game. Oh, the South! How I love it and miss it!!! All I needed was a sweet tea and a magnolia tree! Our weekend getaway was perfect in every way! Now it is on to a busy week of Easter activities but I would not have it any other way!

A little weekend getaway

Sometimes you just need to get away from the everyday routine. Even if it is for just one night. Our plan was to leave after Holden soccer game on Saturday. But as the rains set in on Friday night I had a feeling the game would be cancelled and I was right. So we loaded up the car and headed back to Lexington, Kentucky. I know we just came back from visiting Kentucky but we still had a couple of sights we wanted to get back and see. And what better time then now. Our first stop was the capital, Frankfort. Just look at the view of the capital building downtown! Beautiful! Then it was off to Buffalo Trace Distillery. I know what you are thinking, "Another distillery" Jeez! But this particular one we read was extremely kid friendly, they have their own playground and on Saturday they were having their annual Easter Egg Hunt. So the boys loaded up on Easter cookies and had a blast. Not only were the grounds beautiful with several gardens, wishing wells, a fire house, cafe, but supposedly they are the oldest distillery in Kentucky. Tons of history and beauty. We really enjoyed walking around the grounds and as Holden would say "adventuring"! I just love this picture of the "3 boys" enjoying their root beer after our tour.I forgot to mention, they brew their own root beer too. All we needed was some vanilla ice cream and we could call it a day! HA! Holden and Rylan love staying at a hotel. Not only do we get to have a family slumber party but they always get to go swimming. Yes, I think this was the highlight of the day. The pool! Go figure!

Three words...

Dyeing Easter Eggs! Today was the second time this week we dyed eggs. And from the looks on their faces, I think we will be dying eggs several more times before Easter. Maybe next time we will be a little more creative in our process but then again, classic is always fun too!

Just playin' in the rain...

So much for the sunshine lasting! This morning we were greeted with rain showers and it has not let up. After we came back from the gym the boys were itching to play outside. Since it was just April showers and we did not have anywhere to be, I decided why not. We all put on our rain boots and jackets and set out to play in the rain. Usually I am telling the boys to stay away from the puddles. So for them to actually have permission to get wet, as you can imagine, they were running out the door! Splashing in the puddles was fun but not fun enough, it was time for puddle jumping! Oh my! Just look at theses two having fun! Even I had to join in the fun and jump in a couple! Since there was plenty of water, they pretended they were driving a boat. And this little guy just likes to get wet and dirty so he was loving every minute. Yes, he is all boy!As if Holden and Rylan were not wet enough, they somehow talked me into making water balloons. Funny how they can talk me into so much. Today's April showers surprisingly brought lots of smiles! I think they are both actually hoping it will rain again tomorrow for round 2 of playin' in the rain!

Feels like Spring!

It finally feels like spring! The weather today was beautiful! Just look at the spring flowers blooming. I love spring flowers! We took advantage of the sunshine and played outside the entire day! In honor of the Masters, the boys thought it was a perfect day for a game of golf. And a game of America's favorite past time, BASEBALL! I know I am a little bias but aren't they the cutest baseball players ever!! What a great day outside enjoying the sunshine! I am keeping my fingers crossed that the warm weather is here to stay!!!
