Crazy Cardboard Regatta

Saturday the boys were so excited about the Crazy Cardboard Regatta. So what is the Crazy Cardboard Regatta, it is where individuals make boats out of cardboard and race each other. This boat says it all, "Cardboard, tape, water. What could go wrong?" Some of the boats were so elaborate. Holden liked all of the army/camouflage boats while Rylan liked the bright colorful and animal boats. It was exciting and pretty funny to watch the boaters yell for another person to jump out because they were sinking!

Holden and Rylan enjoyed cheering the boaters and have decided that they are going to enter a pirate boat next year. We will just have to see about that!

The Crazy Cardboard Regatta was fun, even with the down pour of rain, we all enjoyed our day at the park.

The "Sweet" Life!

My birthday was this past Friday, and besides having surprises from Kevin and the boys, I was given enough treats to open a sweet shop. First, my sweet friend and neighbor Sarah brought me two strawberry cupcakes on Thursday night. After a week of VBS and 21 3 year olds, I could not wait until Friday, my birthday, to enjoy these cupcakes. As you can see, Kevin could not resist either! They were delish! That same evening, Kevin surprised me with a dozen cupcakes from a local cupcake shop. Oh my, just look at all the different flavors! There was Red Velvet (My favorite! How can you not love red velvet after seeing Steel Magnolia's and the grooms cake, a Red Velvet armadillo. A southern classic!), Birthday cake, Lemon Raspberry, Oreo, Double Chocolate, and Dreamscicle. The boys loved the dreamscicle cupcake so much, it honestly tasted like a push pop! If that was not enough sweets to last an entire year, my other neighbor brought over a Double Chocolate cupcake too! Then on Saturday, our new sweet neighbor heard it was my birthday and brought over cookies! WOW! I am living a "sweet" life!

After sampling several cupcakes, I decided it would be a good idea to freeze the leftover cupcakes. After all, I do want to fit out of the house! But I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed every "sweet" moment of my day!

A camping we will go...

For several months the boys have been asking to go camping. Seeing that the last time we went to a cabin, in the woods, with one of Kevin's co-workers, we decided that we were both not really campers or wilderness people! But that did not stop the boys from asking to go camping. As a surprise Saturday morning they woke up to an invitation to go camping..in our backyard. They were both so excited. I planned for us to roast marshmallows, hot dogs and s'mores. play some games, do a craft, and look for fireflies. Well, Saturday just happened to be extra steamy. I guess I should have checked the weather forecast. Whoops! Oh well, they kids did not seem to mind the heat. We went on as planned, playing a slingshot game, going on a nature hunt, and roasting over the fire. But just look at poor sweaty Rylan coloring. Not exactly as I had planned, but we went ahead with it. Thankfully, I made some treats to make the heat just a little more bearable. As soon as the sun set we were searching for fireflies! We caught two but as we were placing them in the jars, they both flew away! Would you know, it was melt down time!! It was late and combined with Mommy accidentally letting the fireflies out, it was time for bed! Surprisingly, they both fell asleep within seconds. They were exhausted! This morning they were all smiles and asked to do it again. Hmm, I think we are going to have to wait for the temperatures to cool down a bit. I think I was sticky all night long!
Even though, the weather was extra steamy and muggy, and I was such a bad Mommy for letting the fireflies go, which by the way, I plan to catch some this week so I am back in every ones good graces, our first camping experience was not too bad. Now do not get me wrong, we are still not what I could call "wilderness people" and I do not plan to pitch a tent in a national park anytime soon, but I think Camp Port, that is in our backyard, may have to return for these little campers sometime soon.

Quote of the Day

As Kevin was watching the Women's World Cup, USA vs Japan, today, Holden says, "I am going to cheer for the blue team (Japan) because they all look like Grammy."

FYI...Grammy is from Okinawa, Japan.

Daddy's cheering team

Back in the spring, after our long cold winter and the month of rain, Kevin and I were both suffering from seasonal depression. More Kevin than me, but not having warm weather and sunshine has been quite a challenge for us. i told Kevin he should sign up for an intramural softball team. He played while we were in Alpharetta and had a such a great time plus it is something he loves. After searching around he found a team to join. All of his games have been at 8:00 pm or later. So the boys and I have yet to see him play. Until Saturday, they were participating in a tournament and the boys were excited to cheer him on. So much that on Friday Holden insisted that we make him a poster, "like they do on t.v.", for the big game.
When we got there I was a little surprised by the team. The only word that comes to mind is eclectic! Kevin by far was the youngest. I swear a couple of them were pushing 70 and wheezing for air as they puffed on their cigarette. And did I mention Hulk Hogan was their pitcher? No, seriously his name was Hollywood sportin' the long gold chains and he was at least 65! I shouldn't laugh but the first baseman pulled his hamstring rounding second...I did not know you could injure yourself moving that slow!!! It was quite amusing! But Holden and Rylan seemed to be unaware of their surrounding because they were just a cheering with their homemade signs!

Yep, can you tell they adore their Daddy! After the game, they ran around the bases. I think we may have to go over the fundamentals of baseball with Holden, he is about 2 feet away from the base! We will just leave that up to their Daddy!

My First Scooter!

Poor Rylan always seems to get all the "hand me downs" from Holden. His first tricycle, was Holden's, his first bike, was Holden's, his first baseball glove, was Holden's. Not that there is anything wrong with "hand me downs" it is just Rylan never seems to have any "first" of his own...until now!

Every time we play with our neighbors Rylan always runs to Sophie's scooter to ride on. Usually she does not mind but then, as any 3 year old does, sometime she does not want anyone to ride it. As you can imagine, it is WWW III! Mainly from Rylan!!! So I told Kevin, "We have got to get Rylan a scooter!" On the way home last night, Kevin picked up a brand new, and Rylan's first, Radio Flyer Scooter! This morning we surprised Rylan with his scooter! He rushed outside to give it a ride! And just look at him go!!!! My baby and his very first scooter!!! This is a big day, next thing I will know he will be getting his first big boy bike. But we will not rush that too much, for now we will just let him scoot around!
